With a title like The Haunted Hotel, you can be forgiven if you expect this book to be a ghost story, but it’s not. The books does have some dark and nasty scenes, especially towards the end of the book and—yes—there is a ghost as well, but The Haunted Hotel is more of a .   Book, film, video game; there is nothing creepier than big, empty spaces and being stalked by something unseen. Whether it’s a massive multi-room building like a hotel or apartment building, a creaky old mansion, or an unassuming suburban home, haunted houses derive their horror from feelings of invasion and violation.

Somehow Collins manages to make it all believable and, as usual, the romance in the book has a realistic touch to it. There’s another, short, ghost story at the end of the book, The Dream Woman. This was entertaining enough, but the real jewel is the story of the haunted hotel. Welcome to the Haunted Hotel: Lost Time Walkthrough; A romantic spa getaway hides a terrible secret!
